In addition to our regular Judaic and General studies curriculum, DHR offers weekly specials to enrich the experience of all our students. We offer weekly Art classes, Middos Tovos programming, trips to our school Library and STEM Lab, and almost daily organized P.E. classes.
Additional Learning Resources
Students Who Excel
At DHR, we want to ensure that all of our students are challenged to grow intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. It is for this reason that we have internally created additional resources for students who excel. One such example is our honors Gemara shiur, which we created for our advanced middle school boys.
Our staff prides itself on differentiating instruction to reach a variety of learners. They create different stations and centers within their classrooms to ensure that both students who excel and students who need additional support can feel appropriately challenged.
Support Services
Our school receives additional support services from two main sources- the local school district, and a third-party educational support agency named Catapult. We also have additional math support through our resident expert and mathematics teacher- Rabbi Shulman.
School District: DHR is located within the Greece school district. We are in constant contact with them about our student body to ensure that all of our students who require additional support are receiving the services they need. Our students can receive the following services through the district: Resource Room, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech/Language Counseling, and Consultant Teacher services.
Catapult: Catapult is a third-party agency we have partnered with to offer additional educational support to our student body. They provide our Title I support services. Title I supports students in the subjects of ELA, reading, writing, and phonemic awareness. Catapult also provides us with a School Counselor who meets with children individually to provide social and emotional support.
Jewish Family Services: Beginning in the 2019-20 school year, Jewish Family Services of Rochester began providing a mental health counselor who visits our school in order to provide additional counseling support. Megan Black M.S. MHC, visits our school weekly to support our students, staff, faculty, and administration. In addition to providing on-site individual counseling, she designs and facilitates support groups, psycho-educational offerings, and trainings for children/youth, parents, and staff. She does not diagnose or provide students with outpatient therapy.
JLab: Beginning in the 2018-19 school year, DHR created JLab- the Jewish Learning and Skill Building Center. JLab is a revolutionary program that serves as an official Judaic Title I-like support service geared towards helping students solidify core skills in חומש, קריאה, כתיבה, and דקדוק, in one-on-one and small group settings. The program is currently being headed by veteran educators Mrs. Bracha London and Mrs. Esther Caro.
